ILITE Robotics Help DC Schools with FRC Build
When the Washington DC area hosted its "FIRST" regional robotics competition. Battlefield High School, one of BAE-IT sponsored schools for the 2009 competition, recently hosted a workshop to lend a helping hand to several new rookie teams in the area. To put this into perspective - with Regional and World Championship positions at stake, hosting a workshop like is equivalent to the Washington Redskins helping the NY Giants with their offense game plan in the middle of the season! However, in the world of inspiring students, FIRST has fostered an ethos of "gracious professionalism" and this workshop was a testimonial of this embraced philosophy. Not only did students, teachers and mentors share ideas but they worked on all aspects of building a robot including: writing computer programs, building drive trains, working on strategy and developing web sites.
Hats off to the BAE-IT mentors and volunteers at Battlefield High School: Tony Risi, Maria Hudnall, Ali Khan, Susan Callery and Seth Hutchins.
Northrup Grumman, and Micron employees were all involved in mentoring Rookie teams for two weekends in a row all while trying to coach our FRC and FTC Teams. They have all been very gracious with their In addition to BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, SAIC, time and talent. The Battlefield ILITE Robotics team has a wonderful time working with Oxon Hill and Anacostia High Schools. We have learned, grown, and had a wonderful season sharing our time.
